At the beginning of this Semester, at Florida Gulf Coast University, I met with the Chair of the Humanities Department, Dr. Maria Roca. It was a wonderful meeting and as I walked away from her office I knew something enormous was going to happen. I was allowed/encouraged to create my own Humanities Course and the title of this course is: Yes, I Can, named after my book.

In this course, we look at what The Humanities/Arts have done for humanity in general but more specifically what they have done and continue to do for persons with Exceptionalities. Chapter analysis include the modalities of Art, Music, Theater, Voice, Dance, Life Affirmations...and the list continues.

Students are assigned the task of selecting an Exceptionality, finding a professional organization that services the exceptionality of their choice, interviewing that organization, and committing to both volunteer hours and a major research project/final essay project for presentation to the class.

This first Semester has been a positively exciting adventure and I have been asked to teach this again next Semester. There is already a waitlist for this course and I am honored.
